AUSTRALIAN REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS IN SURF SPORTS
At each World Surf Life Saving Championships, an International Teams Championship is also held. Australian Surf Teams are also selected to compete in a range of other International contests, held outside of the ‘Worlds’.
Maroochydore’s first Australian Representative was Arthur Scott in 1938! It was an Instructional Tour.
Maroochydore’s first Australian Representative in Surf Sports was 1960 Rome Olympian John Rigby, who toured with the 1965 Australian Surf Team to the United States in 1965.
Since 1965 Maroochydore SLSC athletes have won selection in most Australian Surf Teams, particularly at Open level. The 2002 Australian Team to the ‘Worlds’ in the USA included 6 Maroochydore members, with Clint Robinson OAM named as Captain – an honour he was accorded on 5 occasions between 1999 and 2003.
Between 1965 and 2024, 50 Maroochydore Members have achieved Australian Honours in Open and Youth Teams.
